A few words about this collection…

I became interested in the place of street trees in urban environments when I had been studying a number of cityscape paintings, and realised that trees were absent, or very minimized in relation to the buildings.

I started painting angels at a time of stress in my life. I had not planned on painting angels, but somehow they started to appear in my life and I decided to put something of what I felt into painting.

I have always loved horses, and it was a long time before I decided to paint them. I felt that I wanted to paint horses that had an impact that addressed the viewer in some way.

I have always enjoyed visiting ancient sites, and love the atmosphere and the sense of past ancestors touching these places. I love standing stones and stone circles, and many have been subjects for me.

The Lane paintings are based on a lane near where I live, which I had to walk up in all weathers and light conditions. I came to look forward to this walk, particularly the section at the top, which had been a road but is now used by pedestrians only.

I have painted many paintings of beech trees and their roots, with the light both breaking through them and cast over the complex root patterns that form mysterious natural mazes.
